NEPAL EARTHQUAKE CRISIS

Our friends in the European Baptist Federation have contacted us and  called on us to respond to the Nepal earthquake appeal after a 7.9 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal last Saturday (25 April, 2015). An estimated 6.6 million people live in the vicinity most affected by the earthquake. We now know that thousands of people have lost their lives and many hundreds of thousands are left homeless and in great need.

The strength of the initial quake, as well as the multiple aftershocks, has meant that there has been extensive damage to infrastructure and communications networks, particularly in the capital, Kathmandu. This is making the initial response challenging, but BMS World Mission, one of the European Baptist Aid partners, had personnel already in place in and outside Kathmandu, within hours of the quake and is in contact with longstanding and trusted local partners on the ground.

Irish Baptist Networks has responded to this appeal by sending £500 from our current account to help in the relief effort.
